I’m an Australian woman of colour working in arts journalism – a space that’s extremely white in this country. I haven’t traditionally written about race because the pigeonholing of writers of colour into only covering obviously racial issues pisses me off but the desire for a more diverse media influences the way I approach my work. And my own experiences as a brown (and mixed race) woman in a white society colours (haha) the way I watch films and respond to exhibitions. I hold a PhD in Film and Television from Monash University and have written for some stellar publications and outlets including the ABC, SBS and Metro Magazine.
