I have been reporting on Afghanistan since January 2013. My next story, which I began researching in March, will be an investigative feature on a local police commander from central Afghanistan who is accused of gross violations of human rights — including the unlawful killing of civilians — but was ultimately released owing to protection from the U.S. military.
