An essayist writing about beauty, lifestyle, health, and natural hair.
Covering health and wellness, wrongful convictions, culture, and beauty.
I can pretty much do anything, but my favourite things to write about and discuss are the feminist intersections of pop culture. I love television, I love movies and I love talking about what television and movies say about us as a collective. I can write for eternity about the way sexuality is perceived differently by race and how history feeds into those assumptions, but I can also write about the amazing way that Frozen subverted the “true love” trope and what it means to have overtly feminist media representations for children. If you need something written about pop culture, I’m your gal.
I work in beauty right now but definitely want to branch out into different writing subjects — and plan to start freelance writing soon. Fashion, culture, music, reporting are all things that interest me.
I write mostly about entertainment, beauty, race and a lot of personal essays about money, family and class.
I’m currently the digital news editor at Dazed and contributing writer at the Debrief. I’ve also freelanced for BuzzFeed, the Guardian and Vice.
My background is mixed—my mother is a 3rd generation Irish-Italian American from the Northeast and my father, who is a 2nd generation Indian from Kenya, came to the US for college and stayed (because my mom’s pretty cute ;).
Additionally available for fashion and travel pieces; specifically writes about beauty for dark skinned women, racism in Singapore.
