Writer and interviewer concentrating on race, movies, South Asian issues, and gender.
I talk on TV and Radio (Much Music, MTV, CBC’s The Current, Q and Radio 1 news service) and host a monthly radio show on the Toronto Radio Project. Last summer I curated a three-part networking series for young creatives in Toronto called #HustleHard, to facilitate collaboration across scenes and allow people to share their ideas about the cultural economy in Toronto. I am also a juror for the Polaris Music Prize and participate in tons of other readings, panels and talks, when asked. Also, I do all of this and hold down an unrelated day job because I am a boss.
I have an MFA in Creative Writer, am a winner of a San Francisco Arts Commission Individual Artist Award, a San Francisco Writers’ Grotto Fellowship, Voices of Our Nation alumna, and reader at the Kimberley Cameron Literary Agency.
I have reported from Costa Rica, Mexico and the Bay Area
Journalism is actually my second career. For several years I worked in the corporate international trade sector, basically at the nexus of logistics and legal (trade/customs regulations around the world). I took my experience writing memoranda and presentations on how business operations were affected by current events and become a full-time freelance journalist and writer about 3.5 years ago.
I am now available for business copywriting, basic copyediting, reporting on the beats mentioned above as well as investigative pieces.
I am also looking for editors interested in getting content from any UN climate change negotiations meetings taking place throughout the year in Germany and France as well as anyone wanting reporting on where money goes and how it gets allocated in global poverty reduction and development programs as I will be trying to attend a UN conference in Ethiopia this July.
